Autumn is just around the corner and summer is coming to an end. Your caravan should be prepared for the winter slowly. Of course, first remove dust and dirt and check if everything is still in order. Of course, you have reserved winter quarters for the clean and possibly repaired caravan, where it should be protected against the weather. We therefore advise you to look around for a caravan cover. Then you can enjoy your caravan for many more years. In this blog we explain how to choose the right protective cover.
Why do I need a caravan cover?
Especially in the winter quarters, a protective cover is very useful:
She keeps the caravan dry
It offers additional protection against e.g. scratches, since the case consists of several layers of material
It protects against dust, dirt and UV radiation
As said, the caravan should be thoroughly cleaned before storage. You can read how to do this in our blog: Cleaning caravans: How do I wash my caravan?.
What should I look out for when buying a protective cover?
Before you decide on a specific caravan cover, you should check the following points:
1. Is the protective cover breathable?
Check whether the protective cover is breathable: any moisture in the caravan can escape through the cover, but only if the material is breathable. This prevents mold from forming on the caravan.
2. With zippers, or without?
A protective cover with zips is useful if you need something from the caravan or want to put something inside. A zipper at door height is then useful because you don't have to remove the entire cover.
What size cover do I need for my caravan?
Caravan protective covers are of course available in different sizes. The size you need for your caravan depends on the width and (body) length of the caravan. Please note: the type number of the caravan is not the same as the body length (which is often thought). So you have to measure the width and length yourself to determine the correct dimensions.
Broad
RVMasking sells caravan covers in various sizes widths. These are the maximum widths. For example, for a 225 cm wide caravan, choose the 235 cm wide protective cover.
length
To determine the correct length, first determine which part of your caravan is the longest. If the bike rack remains mounted on the caravan, this should be taken into account when measuring the length. The drawbar, on the other hand, is not taken into account when measuring. In a size table you will always find the minimum and maximum sizes, such as:
366-427
427-518
518-579
579 - 640
640-701
The measured length should always be between the minimum and maximum size. So for a 480 cm caravan you need a size 427 - 518 cover, for a 680 cm caravan you need a size 640 - 701 cover.
